Healing After Dental Implant Treatment
In this video, Dr. Gloria Stingley explains what healing typically looks like after implant treatment and why every patient’s timeline is different.
The healing process after a mini implant depends on the condition of your body at the time the implant is placed. In some cases, a tooth has just been extracted, so the amount of time required for your body to heal from the extraction is similar to the time it takes for the implant to become stable. For younger, healthy patients, within about three weeks, everything should feel almost normal.
However, we know that the bone in the area where a tooth was extracted does not fully heal for six to eight months after removal. With implant placement, though, stabilization, comfort, and the ability to use the implant are often immediate. Much of this depends on the surgery itself and the specific circumstances. Factors such as whether there was an infection or if the bone was eroded at the apex all play a role.
There are many considerations involved. We also prescribe post-operative medications based on the situation at hand, which helps support the healing process.
