In this video, Dr. Gloria Stingley explains how one-piece implants are designed to reduce complications and support long-term implant health.
The advantage of a one-piece dental implant is significant, primarily because of what we call peri-implantitis. A standard implant can develop a periodontal condition where bone loss occurs around the junction where the abutment connects to the implant placed in the bone. With a mini implant, there is no such junction, and therefore no associated bone loss. This makes the mini implant a healthier option for tooth replacement. That advantage is substantial because no one wants periodontal disease, bone loss, or implant failure. As a result, the success rate of mini implants is higher.
