Does insurance cover cosmetic procedures? That is a tricky question. There are cases where treatment is more than just cosmetic, but if it is labeled as cosmetic, the insurance company may not pay. For example, if you have a healthy tooth and nothing is wrong with it, the insurance company will not cover treatment. However, if you have teeth that are malaligned or worn and are contributing to periodontal disease, that is a valid reason for treatment. If a tooth is chipped, that is also a reason to correct it. In these cases, the treatment does not need to be labeled as cosmetic, even though the result may improve the appearance of your smile.
