What Can I Eat After Implant Surgery?
In this video, Dr. Gloria Stingley explains how eating guidelines change after implant surgery and why placement location matters.
Patients often wonder what they can eat after receiving a dental implant. This depends on where the implant is placed. If the implant is in the anterior region, you should avoid applying excessive force to that area, just as you would with a crown or restoration in the front of the mouth. This area is more prone to damage, so it is important to allow time for healing. Soft foods are recommended, and food should be cut into small pieces and placed gently into the mouth.
If the implant is in the posterior region, we ensure that the implant and restoration are not too heavy in occlusion, which helps prevent problems. In those cases, you should be able to eat normally. However, during the first few days, we still recommend a soft diet, gradually advancing to firmer foods as healing progresses.
