Your false teeth might feel loose and unstable, slipping, sliding, or even falling out while you’re eating or talking. Maybe you’ve tried to solve the problem with denture adhesives. However, you find that the glue is messy and affects your taste. If you’re tired of loose dentures failing at the most inconvenient times, learn about the benefits of snap-in dentures! This alternative is quite similar to the traditional denture you already have, except it locks onto dental implants for support.

At Carter-Rockbridge General Dentistry, Dr. Gloria Stingley has helped Norcross patients replace their loose dentures with more reliable snap-in dentures.

What Are Snap-In Dentures?

A snap-in denture literally “snaps” onto dental implants that Dr. Stingley places in your jawbone. This approach locks your false teeth securely in place, so you can overcome loose dentures for good.

You’ll be able to take out the snap-in denture at home for regular nightly cleaning, just like a conventional denture. The difference is that snap-in dentures provide much more stability. Unlike a conventional denture that simply rests on the gums and relies on suction or adhesive to stay in place, a snap-in denture uses dental implants as a stable base. That foundation makes a clear difference when you’re eating, talking, or laughing.

Traditional dental implants are a sound option for lasting stability. However, patients often hear they need bone grafting before they can be eligible for conventional implants. This is because loss of jawbone volume is a natural consequence of tooth loss.

In these situations, Dr. Stingley can use mini dental implants as an effective alternative to support snap-in dentures. These less-invasive implants are just as effective as traditional dental implants but are roughly half the diameter. This improved design means mini implants fit into thinner jawbones.

Snap-in dentures can be secured to 2 to 4 traditional implants or 4 to 8 mini dental implants.

In some cases, Dr. Stingley may be able to modify your existing denture to snap onto dental implants. She can place the implants and stabilize your denture in the same visit. That initial stabilization serves as a temporary fix, and she recommends upgrading to a new custom overdenture designed specifically for your implants down the line.

Other Implant Denture Options

Snap-in dentures are a popular choice, but they’re not the only implant denture solution offered at our practice. Other implant denture offerings are fixed (non-removable). Patients often prefer these alternatives when they want a solution that supports a similar experience to their old teeth.

Semi-removable roundhouse bridge: Also known as Fix-on-Six®, this full-arch zirconia dental bridge cements onto 6 to 10 mini implants. During your regular check-ups, Dr. Stingley removes it for professional cleaning and cements it back into place. This option balances affordability with luxury, supporting a more natural-looking denture.

Permanent roundhouse bridge: This zirconia bridge permanently secures to 10 to 12 mini implants or 4 traditional dental implants for lasting stability. This is the most expensive offering, but it also provides the most natural results.

These non-removable alternatives tend to last 10 to 20 years or longer, with proper care. When she sees you for a free screening, Dr. Stingley is happy to explain the benefits of permanent denture options in addition to snap-in dentures. You’ll feel fully informed and ready to make the best decision for your smile goals and overall health.

If your loose denture has been holding you back from laughing, talking, and eating, it’s time to explore snap-in dentures as a more stable alternative. Depending on your jawbone volume and other health factors, Dr. Stingley may recommend traditional dental implants or the less-invasive mini dental implants to stabilize your loose denture.
