Why Is It Important To Replace Missing Teeth?
In this video, Dr. Gloria Stingley explains what happens when missing teeth are left untreated and why timely replacement protects long-term oral health.
Whenever a tooth is extracted, except for wisdom teeth, it should be replaced. Missing a tooth creates a domino effect on overall occlusion and makes it more difficult to clean the surrounding teeth. This increases the risk of caries and periodontal disease and can lead to the loss of additional teeth in the same area. Replacing missing teeth is important because adjacent teeth can shift into the empty space, and bone density in that area will continue to decrease. The sooner a tooth is replaced, the better the outcome, as replacing it early helps preserve the bone.
