Sedation Dentistry Options
In this video, Dr. Gloria Stingley explains how comfort, communication, and sedation choices work together to reduce dental anxiety.
The first form of sedation I offer in my office is good rapport. You have the ability to trust me, and I have the ability to trust you. When I first meet my patients, I do my best to help them relax and teach them how to breathe properly. If they have any apprehension, they can raise their hand, ask me to stop, request what they need, or reposition. That communication is the most important part of relieving anxiety. The purpose of nitrous and oral sedation is also to reduce anxiety. Relieving anxiety requires a level of trust, and one of the best ways to build that trust is for patients to remain fully alert and understand what is happening without fear. However, for patients who cannot get past their anxiety, we do offer nitrous oxide and oral sedation.
