Cómo el L-PRF favorece la curación desde dentro

When you get a papercut, your body initiates a healing process right away. First, it stops the bleeding by plugging the small wound with platelets, eventually forming a clot that turns into a scab. Over the next few days, white blood cells migrate to the injury site. These cells clean out bacteria, paving the way for new tissue to form. It’s how your body heals itself naturally. But what if we told you that we could concentrate those same healing cells and growth factors to help you heal faster after dental procedures? Well, that’s exactly the idea behind L-PRF (Leukocyte-Platelet Rich Fibrin).

This is a natural treatment that helps speed up tissue repair after dental work. It uses only your own blood to supercharge your body’s natural recovery abilities. To use it in treatment, we collect a small blood sample, spin it to separate the healing components, and apply the concentrated material to the treatment site to improve recovery.

L-PRF unlocks the healing power already inside of you, allowing you to recover more comfortably from dental treatments like extracciones y mini implante dental placements.

What Is L-PRF?

At Carter-Rockbridge General Dentistry, we take every measure to make you feel as comfortable as possible during and after dental work. One way to improve recovery is with L-PRF, which supports tissue healing after dental treatments.

L-PRF stands for Leukocyte- and Platelet-Rich Fibrin, which sounds complicated, but is actually pretty simple once you understand each term. Here’s a breakdown:

Leukocytes: This is the medical term for white blood cells, which are critical to your immune system. They help you fight infections and clean bacteria and debris out of wounds like papercuts so that healing can occur.

Platelets: These are actually cell fragments that release growth factors to stimulate tissue repair. They clump together to plug small scrapes and wounds, forming the initial clot that stops bleeding.

Fibrin: This material works with platelets to form a clot that supports wound healing and regeneration. It acts like scaffolding, and as it dries on the surface, it becomes the scab you see.

L-PRF is essentially a blood clot supercharged with your body’s white blood cells and clotting agents, providing extra help at the site of an cirugía oral. After Dr. Stingley applies the clot, you’ll experience improved healing, reduced inflammation, and significantly shorter recovery time.

This platelet therapy is 100% natural and doesn’t use any foreign substances or additives. L-PRF is a completely optional add-on procedure, and Dr. Stingley is happy to leave the choice up to you.

How L-PRF Works

So L-PRF helps you to heal faster and more comfortably, but what should you expect from the process?

First, we draw a small blood sample. It’s very similar to a routine blood draw.

Then, we place the blood vial in a centrifuge, an FDA-cleared medical device. This spins the blood, separating the sample into three layers. Red blood cells collect at the bottom. Platelets and white blood cells gather in the middle layer. Plasma is found at the top. Dr. Stingley removes the middle layer to create the L-PRF clot.

Next, Dr. Stingley shapes the fibrin clot and applies it directly to the area where she performed your dental work. Once applied to the site, it releases your body’s natural healing proteins to support faster, easier healing.

Lastly, you’ll experience improved healing, as the clot accelerates tissue regeneration. It’s that simple.

L-PRF is a completely optional, add-on procedure for surgical procedures. But at our office, we’re advocates for the platelet therapy as a way to make your recovery easier.

At Carter-Rockbridge General Dentistry, our goal is to minimize your discomfort throughout your dental visit. To help achieve that, Dr. Stingley is happy to explain how L-PRF can help you recover faster after your dental procedure when you come in for a free screening.
